According to the statistics, 85% of women between 13 and 45 experience premenstrual syndrome as a real problem that negatively affects their work and family life. 7-10 days before the beginning of a period, some women tend to suffer from headaches, sickness and dizziness. During menstruations women complain of heaviness and abdominal pains. Sometimes such pains may resemble strong labor pains. They may also cause swelling of legs and arms, enlargement and aching of mammary glands. Very often during this period women gain weight, as a result of water retention in tissues, or develop immense appetite. Sometimes it is followed by heart arrhythmia, cardiac pains, insignificant temperature upswings, as well as frequent mood swings, nervousness, anxiety and vulnerability.
Such state appears in connection with hormonal disbalance and oversensitivity to hormones. Endometriosis, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, mastopathy are as a rule connected with elevated concentration of hormones in the female body. At the same time their deficiency causes premature aging of the female body and premature menopause. If PMS symptoms are ignored for a long time or alleviated by means of painkillers, it is highly possible that manifestations of the syndrome would aggravate with age. Artemida Neo—a new product from the Vision Company—will help normalize endocrine profile and relieve the PMS symptoms.
The unique formula of the natural complex Artemida Neo contains plants and vitamins, wholesome and indispensable for the female body, which are able to diminish the PMS symptoms and help during periods. The active substances of the complex accumulate in the body and stabilize the level of female hormones. One of the components, chasteberry, is the №1 natural remedy to alleviate the PMS symptoms. Chasteberry extract reduces the level of prolactin, which helps normalize the menstrual cycle, duration and abundance of periods, and reduces the risk of developing mastopathy. Components of the complex have a preventive effect and make it easier during PMS: relieve menstrual cramps, help overcome depression, mood swings, improve sleep, maintain the proper level of iron in blood, thus preventing anaemia. Moreover, ingredients of Artemida Neo have a preventive action and reduce the risk of inflammatory processes of the female urogenital sphere. In case of regular intake, Artemida Neo enables to preserve health of the female genital system and prolong reproductive phase, and consequently—female youth.
PROPERTIES OF THE COMPONENTS Artemida Neo
Angelica seninsis (Chinese Angelica) produces antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antispasmodic effects. It has a long tradition of use in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese medicine to treat allergies, arthritis, and high blood pressure. Some studies have shown that it increases the immune system function.
Raw Chinese angelica (root and rhizome) contains an essential oil (angelinovoe), coumarins, bioflavonoids, tannins, bitter resin, etc. It has a general firming and toning effects, helps to normalize the functions of the central nervous system, is recommended for vegetative neurosis, hysteria, insomnia. Chinese angelica improves peripheral circulation, dilates blood vessels, reduces blood viscosity and risk of thrombosis. It has a sedative effect. Increases in hemoglobin and is used to treat anemia. It stimulates bile secretion, gastric and pancreatic juice, improves the motor activity of the gastrointestinal tract.
Chinese angelica recommended for diseases of the respiratory system. In addition, a uroseptikom, has a diuretic effect and is applied at inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system. Chinese Angelica is often called «female ginseng». Normalizes the hormonal balance in the female body. It restores the regularity of the cycle, eliminates the pain. Has a beneficial effect in gynecological diseases associated with congestion in the pelvis. Contributes to the restoration of the menstrual cycle after discontinuation of hormonal therapy. In Chinese medicine the plant is used to ease childbirth.
Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L) Sprengelis) well-known because of its diuretic and astringent qualities. It has been used in European medicine since the 14h Century to treat kidney and urinary ailments.
For medicinal purposes the leaves, which contain glycosides, bioflavonoids, tannins, organic acids. Bearberry has anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiseptic anddiuretic properties. Bearberry contains the glycoside arbutin which has antimicrobial properties.
The use of bearberry helps cleanse the urinary tract from bacterial flora and the products of inflammation. Drugs used bearberry in inflammatory diseases of the urinary bladder, urinary tract infections and kidney stones, with sexually transmitted diseases.
Chaste tree (Vitex)
Chaste tree is used primarily as a women’s herb for menstrual complaints. The flavonoids in chaste tree exert an effect similar to the hormone progesterone, although the plant contains no hormonal compounds. Chaste tree acts on the pituitary gland in the brain, normalizing the release of both follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).
The overall effect is to regulate the menstrual cycle and slightly increase the production of progesterone in women who otherwise have irregular cycles. Many menstrual complaints are known to result from a relative lack of progesterone. When progesterone levels are low relative to estrogen, the result is often infertility, heavy bleeding, lack of periods, too-frequent periods, irregular periods, and premenstrual syndrome. Because it helps normalize LH levels, chaste tree alleviates these complaints. It can normalize and regulate menstrual cycles, reduce premenstrual fluid retention, and treat some cases of acne that flare up during menstruation.
Chaste tree’s berries also can be used for menopausal bleeding irregularities, such as frequent or heavy bleeding; it is often combined with hormonal herbs such as black cohosh or soy. Therapy of six months to one year is usually recommended. Chaste tree is a slow-acting herb and can take months to produce effects. When treating infertility, chaste tree is continued for one to two years; it is discontinued if pregnancy occurs. Because the constituents in chaste tree — including flavonoids, iridoid glycosides, and terpenoids — gradually normalize FSH and LH levels, it helps allow for normal ovulation and pregnancy. Chaste tree also lowers the hormone prolactin, produced during stressful periods, which also may cause tender breasts and uterine cramps associated with PMS.
Red clover (Trifolium pretense L.)
Clover has anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anti-sclerotic, wound healing, demulcent, analgesic, expectorant, diuretic, diaphoretic, antiseptic, cholagogue, hemostaticeffect.
Clover is used for colds, asthma, cough, painful menstruation, diabetes, tuberculosis, kidney disease, as a tonic for loss of strength, anemia, shortness of breath, as antispasmodic, and rheumatism. It is used for anemia, inflammation ofthe bladder, heavy uterine bleeding, bronchitis, asthma, shortness of breath.
Red clover contains many flavonoids, has a general firming properties, it is usedto prevent thrombosis, it alienates the menopause. Clover normalizes fat metabolism, lowers cholesterol, protects against oxygen deficiency, stimulates the regeneration and immunity. It is indicated for theprevention of atherosclerosis.
Vitamin A consists of a group of substances — retinol and its esters, retinal, retinoic acid. Provitamin A, beta-carotene in addition, are also alpha-and gamma-carotene. It is well known that vitamin A is essential for the functioning of the organs of vision, and its deficiency can lead to a breach of dark adaptation — «night blindness» to the emergence of conjunctivitis.
Vitamin A has several important systemic effects: the need for growth, cell division and differentiation of epithelial tissues, has an antioxidant effect. He has onkoprotektornym effect. An important aspect of the action of vitamin A is its ability to raise local and general resistance of the organism, and therefore its deficiency increases the risk of acute respiratory infections and other diseases.
Vitamin A helps produce hormones, it is necessary to maintain reproductive function of men and women. The main indications for therapeutic use of vitamin A are infectious and respiratory diseases, skin diseases, eye, digestive organs (gastritis, peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer), dysfunction of the gonads. Vitamin A is used to prevent the formation of concretions in the gall bladder, topically — to treat burns, ulcers, and frostbite.
The most important function of vitamin E is to maintain the integrity of the body’s intracellular membrane by protecting its physical stability and providing a defense line against tissue damage caused by oxidation. Vitamin E is protective because it helps reduce oxidation of lipid membranes and the unsaturated fatty acids and prevents the breakdown of other nutrients by oxygen.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that prevents free radical damage in biological membranes. Free radicals can cause cell damage that may contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Vitamin E has an effect on several enzyme activities and membrane properties. It is involved in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and protein kinase C activity. Vitamin E as an antioxidant helps to stabilize cell membranes and protect the tissues of the skin, eyes, liver, breast, and testes, which are more sensitive to oxidation.
Vitamin E helps protect against heart disease by limiting the oxidation of LDL-cholesterol. Vitamin E helps prevent oxidation of lipoproteins, particularly in smokers, and reduces the stickiness of platelets in the bloodstream. Vitamin E also keeps arteries flexible and elastic, allowing blood to flow freely. Vitamin E helps prevent arteries from clogging by blocking the conversion of cholesterol into the waxy fat deposits called plaque that stick to blood vessel walls. Vitamin E also thins the blood, allowing for blood to flow more easily through arteries even when plaque is present. Vitamin E also may help prevent the formation of blood clots, which could lead to a heart attack. Vitamin C and vitamin E, taken in combination, help to stabilise LDL cholesterol in the body. This may help to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis.
Some cancers are believed to result from oxidative damage to DNA caused by free radicals. Free radicals can damage DNA, leading to mutations in cells that may cause cancer. Antioxidants such as vitamin E help protect against the damaging effects of free radicals. The vitamin may also help fight cancer by boosting the immune system. Vitamin E may protect against the development of cancers by enhancing immune function. Some evidence associates higher intake of vitamin E with a decreased incidence of prostate cancer and breast cancer. Cigarette smokers have a higher risk of developing cancers of the mouth, upper airways and lungs, and vitamin E may help protect smokers against these cancers through its antioxidant properties.
Because of it’s antioxidant action, vitamin E may help to protect against cataracts and age related macular degeneration. Cataracts are growths on the lens of the eye that cloud vision. They increase the risk of disability and blindness in aging adults. Lens clarity, which is used to diagnose cataracts, is better in regular users of vitamin E supplements and in persons with higher blood levels of vitamin E. Uveitis is another eye disorder for which the antioxidant vitamins C and E may be helpful. Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye between the sclera and the retina.
Alzheimer’s disease is a wasting disease of the brain. Oxidative stress is believed to contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that prevents free radical damage in biological membranes. Vitamin E supplementation improves cognitive performance in healthy individuals and in those with dementia from causes other than Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, vitamin E, together with vitamin C may prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
Vitamin B6 supports more vital bodily functions than any other vitamin. Vitamin B6 is a coenzyme for several enzyme systems. Vitamin B6, used mainly in the body for the processing of amino acids, performs this task along with certain enzymes. It is vital in the metabolism of amino acids in the intestines. It allows the amino acids to be synthesized, broken down and absorbed. The forming of histamine, serotonin, dopamine and adrenaline are dependent on vitamin B6. Vitamin B6 is required for the production of serotonin and helps to maintain healthy immune system functions, to protect the heart from cholesterol deposits, and to prevent kidney stone formation.
Vitamin B6 is indicated for the treatment of sideroblast anemia, neurologic disturbances, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and cheilosis. In combination with folic acid and vitamin B12, vitamin B6 lowers homocysteine levels which is an amino acid linked to heart disease and stroke, and possibly other diseases as well, such as osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Pyridoxine is required for the balancing of hormonal changes in women as well as assisting the immune system and the growth of new cells. Vitamin B6 may be helpful in some women with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, also known as premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and may be useful in some cases of gestational diabetes and for protection against metabolic imbalances associated with the use of some oral contraceptives. Vitamin B6 promotes iron excretion and this has been used as a rationale for treatment in iron storage diseases.
Iron is a trace mineral found in the hemoglobin molecule of red blood cells, the part of the blood that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. It is also found in myoglobin, the form of hemoglobin found in muscle tissue. Iron works with several enzymes required for energy production and protein metabolism.
The most obvious form of manifestation of iron deficiency — iron deficiency anemia, in which serious violations may be lurking in the body (chronic blood loss with internal bleeding). As a rule, reduction in hemoglobin in the blood of the diagnosis — anemia. By the end of pregnancy iron-deficiency anemia occurs in 30-73% of women. Iron deficiency anemia is often the first year of life of children. Iron deficiency in children can slow the mental and physical development, causing a distortion of appetite.
Most doctors recommend that pregnant women take a supplement containing iron since the increased demand for iron can rarely be met through diet alone during pregnancy. Many women’s vitamin formulas include iron, which can be useful for menstruating women. After menopause, most women do not need extra iron.
Iron is an essential component of proteins involved in oxygen transport. It is also essential for the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. A deficiency of iron limits oxygen delivery to cells, resulting in fatigue, poor work performance, and decreased immunity.
